Context 

As safety management system (SMS) implementation advances in terms of service providers’ experience, it is of utmost importance that safety practitioners learn to effectively master sophisticated safety risk assessment methodologies.

This course will provide participants with an understanding of advanced systems safety risk assessment methodologies and how these can be implemented as part of SMS. Practical exercises and case studies are embedded throughout the course.

• Evolution of safety: linear vs. systemic approach.
• Bowtie methodology.
• AcciMap methodology.
• System theoretical accident analysis and processes (STAMP) and systems theoretic process analysis (STPA).
• Process/task analysis.

• Familiarity with a system safety risk assessment methodologies.
• Understanding when one method is more suitable than another.
